The Meritage Resort and Spa is a 323-room resort located in the world-famous Napa Valley. The amenities consist of a Trinitas Tasting Cave, Spa Terra with 16 treatment rooms (the only Spa in a cave in the world), a bowling alley, sports bar, Siena Restaurant, Meritage Bar, Bocce, croquet, fitness center and attendant exercise programs, two pools, three Jacuzzis, 11 acres of vineyards with walking trails and picnic areas, and an expansive business center. The Meritage Resort & Spa is home to the largest meeting space in the Napa and Sonoma Valleys, the premier grape growing and winemaking regions of the United States, and is the largest hotel north of San Francisco.
Why hold the conference at the Meritage? It is user-friendly for Catholics. We are fortunate that His Excellency, The Most Reverend Robert F. Vasa, Bishop of Santa Rosa, in whose Diocese the Meritage is situated, has generously granted permission for Holy Mass to be celebrated in the Meritage’s Our Lady of Grapes Chapel, which seats 75. During non-conference times Roman Catholic priests in good standing are invited to stay for free by celebrating daily Mass in the Chapel under the terms of the Meritage’s Complimentary Priest Policy. Each resort room is equipped with a Catholic Bible, rosary and crucifix. A stunning statue of Our Lady, lit by night, is located in the vineyards overlooking the resort.
The Meritage positions itself to serve Catholic organizations and their clergy and religious. It hosted the West Coast Legatus conference in 2006, the Catholic University of America Board retreat in 2006, the Acton Institute conference on Catholic Schools, the Fellowship of Catholic University Student’s Executive Board retreat, the Magis Institute for Reason & Faith Executive Board retreat, and two conferences on South American economics with bishops and cardinals from that region.
