Experience Itinerary

April 11:  Arrival in Verona towards late Afternoon. Dinner at a Local Restaurant.

 

April 12:  After breakfast, drive to the sanctuary of the Madonna del Frassino [Our Lady of the Ash Tree].  The statuette of Our Lady appeared inside the hollow of an Ash Tree to a peasant invoking her name in 1510, after a disastrous plague.  These are pictures of the sanctuary. Lunch by the shores of Lake Garda.  After Lunch, boat cruise at Lake Garda.  Return to Verona.  Free time until dinner.

 

April 13: Morning Mass at the Basilica of St. Zeno in Verona. Wine tasting and Lunch at Cantine Fumanelli.  After lunch, we will return to Verona and have a tour of the Duomo and will walk through the historical quarter centered upon the well-preserved Roman Amphitheatre. Dinner in Verona. 

 

April 14-16:  Morning Mass.  Today, our guests fly to Split, Croatia from Venice’s Marco Polo International Airport.  Wednesday afternoon will be spent in leisure, to allow our guests to settle into the hotel and free time to explore the old city.  We will have a festive dinner in Split and will spend two nights in Split.  We will explore the retirement palace of the Roman Emperor, Diocletian.  A neighborhood of medieval buildings have been built around the palace.  It is considered a UNESCO world heritage site. We will also visit St. Domnius’ Cathedral; after lunch, we drive above the town to see the Klis Fortress. 

 

April 16-17: We drive to Medjugorje, which is about 1.5 hours from Split.  Enjoy the beautiful countryside of this pilgrimage site which is a place known for prayer and devotion.

 

April 17-20:  Our journey takes us to Dubrovnik, to spend a few days in this ancient Roman and medieval city.  We will have Mass at the Franciscan Monastery which also has an ancient apothecary, explore the old town and walk its city walls; and see St. Lawrence’s fortress.  The Cathedral of Dubrovnik also houses the major relics of St Blaise, the Protector of this city and of throats.  We will take a 40 minute drive to see the Hercegovacka Gracanica Monastery with its beautiful frescoes completed in 2014.  It is fashioned after the medieval Gracanica Monastery.

 

April 20:  After morning Mass, our guests depart Croatia.
