One of Christ’s greatest gifts to the Church is the priesthood. Priests bring Christ’s love to us not only through the sacraments, but also through their spiritual fatherhood and friendship. They do so much for us, and we should always encourage opportunities to support them through formation, fellowship, and retreat. A healthy and fulfilled priest is a shepherd prepared to serve his flock.
For more than 15 years, the Napa Institute has partnered with Pacific Hospitality Group to provide a special opportunity for Catholic priests through Clergy Hospitality. Through this program, Catholic priests in good standing can enjoy complimentary stays at PHG hotels equipped with chapels in Napa Valley, Austin, Kauai, and our newest location in downtown Phoenix (opening October 2026).
We want to provide priests with an opportunity for rest, renewal, and hospitality while also bringing the extraordinary gift of the Eucharist to these hotels and resorts. Hotel staff and guests receive this special grace, while priests enjoy time away to rest and recharge.
Over the many years of this program, we have learned that hospitality itself can become an apostolate. “Hospitality” and “hospital” are derived from the same Latin root word, hospes, meaning “guest” or “host.” In both a hotel and a hospital, we welcome a stranger and bring them into our care.
Through Clergy Hospitality, we believe in taking care of our priests so they can build thriving parishes, dioceses, and communities.
Priests have shared with us so many incredible stories of how this program has become a yearly tradition and a real source of refreshment for them. One priest wrote, “I personally needed time to pray and be refreshed. I could never afford to do this, but the opportunity to enjoy God in Napa was incredible. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.” Another shared, “The program re-energizes the priest in both body and soul.”
Even Scripture reminds us of the importance of retreat. In Mark’s Gospel, Jesus tells his disciples, “Come away by yourselves to a deserted place and rest a while.” This program can be that source of rest and renewal for our beloved priests.
I encourage you to invite a priest in your life to check out this program. Simply send them to ClergyHospitality.org, where they can submit a request for the dates of their vacation, and a member of our team will follow up to confirm their reservation.
Through the intercession of St. John Vianney, Blessed Stanley Rother, St. Junípero Serra, and all the holy priests among the saints in heaven, pray for us!
